Scenes and Sources

There are two very important tabs on the Streamlabs Desktop app that you need to be aware of. The scenes tab and the sources tab. The scenes tab houses all of your scene collections such as the live screen, starting screen, intermission screen etc. The sources tab is where all of the widgets and sources that are used in the current scene are managed. Let’s get started with your first scene.

Livescreen Scene
  1. Rename the current scene to Livescreen.
  2. On the sources tab add a new source and select Screen Capture.
  3. Choose the game or window you would like to capture and confirm your settings.
  4. With the initial scene setup complete you’re now ready to add in your sweet new graphics!

Overlay (Facecam, Bar Overlay & Info Labels)

Adding the Overlay to your current scene
  1. With the Livescreen scene active, add a Media Source from the sources tab and select the Overlay file.
  2. Make sure to select the Loop checkbox before pressing Done.
  3. Resize the Overlay and adjust it to your preferred position.
  4. Add a Video Capture Device source and select your device.
  5. On the sources tab, move this layer beneath the Overlay layer and adjust it’s size so it fits within the Overlay.
Adding your Username
  1. Add a Text source and enter your Username.
  2. Resize and reposition this text layer onto the Overlay.

Make sure the text layer is above the rest of the Overlay layers so that it is visible.

Adding Stream Labels and Icons
  1. Add a Custom Icon source and select the Icon folder found in your download.
  2. Select the Icon you would like to use and resize and reposition it onto the Overlay.
  3. Add a Stream Label source and select the Label Type that you wish to use.
  4. Resize and reposition this so that it matches up with the Icon and group these elements together.

Overlays usually requires more than one Stream Label. You can either repeat the steps above, or more easily, copy the Stream Labels folder and Paste Duplicate to create a duplicate folder. Be sure to avoid Paste Reference as this will create a source that will be reflected by the original source. This means that changes made to the original source will also make the same changes to the new source.

Tip: Neaten up your workspace by naming sources correctly and grouping them into folders to keep everything organized.
